Penny's shop was established in 1992, and is home to Telzey, Pixel and Mira who ensure that each and every book has at least one cat hair. They also do duty in the front window exposing their bellies to the midday sun.

As you walk into the shop Penny is normally seated at the left, and as you look into the shop, the right-hand wall is science fiction and fantasy. The far left-hand wall is Australiana and literature (in separate sections of course).

Penny also keeps true crime, crime fiction, The Arts, best-sellers, psychology, philosophy, and theology, military histories, natural histories, children's books, and other bits and pieces that defy classification.

David moved his shop from St.Kilda where he was for 13 years, to the new location in late 2005. He is still setting it up but David's shop is definitely the larger, with 5 bookcases of cooking books, 14 of science fiction and fantasy (the older stuff), 8 bookcases of biographies, numerous bookcases of history, crime fiction, best-sellers, plays and poetry and literature.

Both Penny and David stock hard covers and paperbacks, with the hard covers that have dust jackets being protected with an archival grade plastic wrapper. The majority of the hard covers are First Editions.

SYBER'S BOOKS offer a discount to ALL members of Science-Fiction and Fantasy fan clubs, such as the MSFC, SCA, AnimeVic, Doctor Who Club of Victoria, Spaced Out, etc.

They love to run through their cat tunnels and have a great old time scratching at the cat scratching posts. These cats are absolutely purrfect residents for The Cat Corner’s customers, as they are the real things; and are wonderful to watch as they are very playful kittens and love to run, roll around, climb, jump, and play with their companions (frequently by wrestling with, and chasing one another.) Restaurants and Cafés

NOEL'S CAFE.
Main Road, Olinda. Phone: (03) 9751 1040.

Melbourne, for a country treat with a warm country fire heater, head down to Noel's Café, in Olinda. With a warm friendly atmosphere, and light-hearted staff, including the owner (and Deputy Mayor of the Yarra Ranges Shire), you won't be disappointed. Especially over the menu. The prices may be higher than most regular cafés ($7-$9), but one can be assured they're getting their money's worth. With antique-looking objects to make the sweet café look rustic and well-worn, you'd think you'd stepped back in time a few decades. Any walnut fan will be in for a treat, if they want some with their sundaes; caramelised walnuts! You'll find Noel's Café off the Mount Dandenong Tourist Road in Olinda just near the traffic island. Bon appetit!

RED SALMON.
Shop 2223 - Knox City Shopping Centre, 425 Burwood Highway, Wantirna 3152. Phone: (03) 9801 8962.

For more formal alternate people, or those in the mood for the 'meal and a movie' routine (still fun to do), head down to Red Salmon Restaurant and Cafe for four great reasons - a) the staff are friendly, b) the food is great, c) it's conveniently located near Village Cinemas and lastly, d) it's all reasonably priced.

Red Salmon, with its funky prints, and warm red lighting, is a smooth place to sit and chat over a latte and cafe cakes, or just for an excellent meal. I usually ask for the chicken and mushroom risotto. It costs around $16-$17 but before you cry that's too much to pay - the serving DEFINITELY is your money's worth. Not a tiny bowl - oh no! In a serving bowl nearly the size of your average dinner plate, and made on the spot, with only the freshest of ingredients.

Red Salmon Restaurant and Cafe is fully licensed and allows BYO wines only. Trading hours are 11am - 11pm, 7 days a week, and it is located at Knox City Shopping Centre, in the restaurant strip, just across from the Village Cinemas complex and Virgin Music store. Have fun, and bon appetit! Oops, by the way, they accept cash, EFTPOS and most credit cards. Enjoy!

THE VERANDAH VIEW CAFE.
Open Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00AM.
1284 Mount Dandenong Tourist Rd, Kalorama, 3766.
Phone:(03) 9761 9902.
Email: dsturge@ozemail.com.au

For those travelling to or from Olinda via Montrose and who are feeling peckish, drop into The Verandah View Cafe. Situated on a crossroad with Ridge Rd, and facing the Five Ways Gallery and the local look-out point, The Verandah View is a quiet and tidily run cafe with friendly staff and a warm, though spacious, environment. Windows of the cafe look out across the valley emcompassing Silvan Reservoir and the art gallery.

Meals vary from soups and toasted sandwiches, to pies and sausage rolls, to fritattas and a tasty looking sweets selection too. Cold and hot drinks are available, including chai lattes, for that little extra bite! All hot drinks have the option of full cream, skim or soy milk, except for the long and short blacks... for obvious reasons.

Payment options available are: cash, EFTPOS and credit card. Please note, for all EFTPOS and credit card purchases, you must spend a minimum of $10.

ZEST.
For gourmet breakfasts lunches and afternoon teas, head on down to Zest Cafe and Restaurant. This fully licensed corner of town, which has won a Maroondah Business Excellence Award, even caters for functions and hosts a weekly Philosophy Night, on Wednesday evenings from 7:30PM.

I was impressed with how neat and open this small restaurant is, and also with the service (including the smile). So come down to Zest and give it a try. You can find Zest Cafe and Restaurant at Shops 10 and 11, Arndale Shopping Centre, 224 Mt Dandenong Rd, Croydon.

Phone: (03) 9725 4144. Fax (03) 9725 2779.

Business Hours:
Mon. - Sat. 8:00AM - 5:30PM.
Sun. 9:00AM - 5:00PM.

And don't forget, Orange juice is free between 8 & 11AM Mon. to Sat. and between 8 & 12PM on Sundays.
